Holy Cow! Star Attraction at Waterford LGFA PDP Finale

The final training session of Waterford LGFA’s Player Development Programme (PDP) took an unforgettable twist when Daisy the dairy cow strolled onto the pitch — perfectly reflecting the support of the farming community behind the county’s future football stars.

The surprise guest was brought along by Richard Skehan, with the visit organised by Kevin Moloney of Waterford Dairy Farmers — proud sponsors of both the PDP and the county senior team under the banner “From the Ground Up.” Players, parents and coaches paused training as Daisy quickly became the afternoon’s talking point, with plenty of photos snapped before the action resumed.

The PDP has run over the past five weeks for U13, U15 and U17 squads, focusing on skills, coaching and match preparation. It all leads to the U13 Inter-County Blitz in Mallow today, the U15 Blitz next week, while the U17s already lined out at the National Blitz in Portlaoise in July.

Kevin Moloney said the sponsorship is about more than funding:
“Farmers are at the heart of every community in Waterford. Supporting the PDP is about giving girls the same opportunities, from the ground up, to develop and succeed.”

With 500 local producers backing the initiative, the partnership not only supports coaching and equipment but also highlights the role of dairy nutrition in sport.

As the squads line out in Mallow today, they do so with new confidence, stronger skills — and the memory of Daisy, the cow who reminded everyone that farming and football truly go hand in hand.
